OMEP recieves $5 million ETP grant for green job training

The Department of Labor announced today that the Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership (OMEP) in collaboration with a multitude of partners in the greater Portland - Salem - Vancouver area has been awarded a $5,000,000 Energy Training Partnership Grant. The Renewable Northwest (ReNW) project is expected to preserve and create 1,734 jobs in the renewable energy industries (electric power and biofuels) by building a skilled workforce to support companies that generate power, as well as by assisting local manufacturers to retool their workforce to produce products to support these companies and industries. Grant funds will be used to increase the capacity of local area training providers to provide additional existing, industry-identified training; to analyze the technical workforce skills and production requirements of potential suppliers to the industries; and, to retool existing workers to meet the changing needs of their companies around renewable energy

OMEP brings two Department of Labor grants to Provide Lean training to successful conclusion

As OMEP’s $3 Million award winning Department of Labor Advanced Manufacturing Training in Lean Manufacturing and the $3.2 Million Lean Manufacturing Training for Food Processors grants draw to a close in the first quarter of 2008, actual performance greatly exceeded expected grant outcomes in every category. Together the grants have touched more than 150 companies and provided training to almost 7,000 employees.
